The 9/11 Post
Yeah it’s a little late… bite me. I don’t really have much to say about it actually, I have more to say about the rememberances of the last few days.
What was I doing on that day? Working. As usual. Occasionally we’d get some updates on the situation, but none of us were watching it live or anything.
Anyway my first random thought is that I’m getting really irritated with the “have we forgotten the lesson” nonsense. How could we forget a lesson we apparently haven’t learned in the first place? You know, the one about “if you drop bombs and otherwise fuck around in someone’s back yard long enough, eventually they’re gonna get pissed at you”.
My second random thing: is this offensive? Well it depends on the context. Are they making fun of the event itself? If so, yes, that would be offensive. Or are they making fun of the cartoonish idea of the event — ya know, that thing that broadcasters use to sell advertising, country singers use to sell albums, politicians use to sell their campaigns, and who knows how many scumbags use to sell t-shirts and bumperstickers? I’m all about punching some of the air out of that tasteless nonsense, and I strongly suspect that this was the creator’s intent. UPDATE: thepeskyfly on a similar train of thought
Finally I’ll just add a link to that tasty piece by Keith Olbermann.
