Yes on Dr. No

Another piece of news just came across the wire, it seems that Ron Paul, the paleo-libertarian congressman from Texas, is announcing a run for the GOP’s 2008 presidential nomination.

Frankly I don’t know what to think of it. I have more than a few disagreements with Dr. Paul to be sure, but compared to anyone else in the field he’s an angel. Of course, chances are remote that he’d get the nomination, and I for one would have no interest working with the rest of his party in the before or after. But it does make for some interesting speculation as to how this might affect the GOP primaries. Paul could simultaneously drain neolibertarian support from Guilliani and paleoconservative support from — well right now the paleos don’t have anyone to speak of but Romney may be their fallback. I look forward to seeing how this actually plays.

UPDATE: Ah, it seems AC already has the scoop.

any intelligent left-leaning conservative has a chance at my vote, but i don’t think it matters anymore. pro-war, anti-war, whatever.

everyone’s concerned about the war and the fact of the matter is that we are fucked. there is no way to win. it was stupid for the bush administration to believe that the foreign occupation of an arab nation was a good idea. yet, if we withdraw, we leave behind a tattered nation ripe for civil war — all along providing a breeding ground for a new generation of anti-zionists all hell bent on inflicting as much harm on their oppressors as possible.

the ONLY way for any sort of semblance of a lasting peace, as i see it, is to adhere to the following:

    - eliminate dependence foreign dependence upon oil (durh)
    - end american capitalistic dominance of uncooperating nations (read: globalization == bad)
    - quit flexing the muscle cuz even the most gruesome of individuals eventually get mobbed cuz of their boneheadedness

as an extenstion of my beliefs –

    - rise up and be your own (wo)?man and quit depending upon corporate services for your life’s continuance
    - eliminate the neofeudalism that exists under the guise of this capitalistic democratic republic
    - tax the corporations MUCH more
    - rid ourselves of the wealthy representatives and senators that serve only to further their personal agendas
    - spread TRUE athenian democracy
    - eliminate religious bigotry
    - believe in human reason

and i’m steppin off the soapbox…
