Bill & Hillary
On Hillary –
“The last thing America needs is a radical liberal who supports the war and the death penalty while opposing flag-burning and gay marriage.”
On Bill, but not that Bill —
it seems that Bill Richardson has announced. I don’t know a whole lot about him myself but Logan at Freedom Democrats has had many good things to say, and of course the advantages of running a governor over a senator have been well discussed elsewhere. Some dems are giving that juice to Vilsack, but I do think Richardson seems to be one to keep an eye on.
From what I’ve scanned he absolutely strikes me as the Democrats best chance for success, absent Al Gore at least. A fiscally responsible, socially liberal, pro-gun Western Democrat? That’s exactly what you need to get the swing from the middle, the people who *want* to vote for Democrats if you stop giving them excuses not to. And for the same reason I think he’s the only one of the field who stands out enough to get into the arena with Hillary & Obama — with Hillary taking the center-south and Obama taking the progressive left, center-north is wide open. And it’s not hard to imagine Hillary & Obama throwing enough mud back & forth to leave Richardson the only one still standing.
I don’t know, all just speculation, but he is definitely on my watch list.

Richardson’s announcement was the best news I heard Sunday. I won’t vote for Hillary; she’s proven herself to be too much of a panderer. I won’t vote for Obama; I just don’t like him all that much. Richardson, I like. He’s said he won’t run as the “Latino” candidate; let’s hope he keeps his word and just runs as a candidate without a gimmick.
Indeed. I didn’t even realize he was Latino at first.
I agree, I’ll be watching him as well.
I went to school with the guy sorta (he was a senioir my frosh college year), and despite the rants from some Ls in NM, he still seems to be a man of some integrity and promise. Even when he was stuck in that Energy Dept. screwup with the missing computer files and such, he handled himself with dignity and
a seeming sincerity that would be refreshing indeed …
Can you imagine a showdown election (after HRC & BHO knock each other off, and the GOPers get blindsided?) between Senor Richardson … and Ron Paul? I can dream at least …
No doubt… if the parties would give us matchups like that, we could go home & stop worrying about it!
