nuggets

  • Tuesday night was round two of the South Nashville Planning Meetings. We got a little deeper into the details, first taking an approval survey based on various pictures of roads, buildings, etc., then breaking into groups where we poured over a map of the area taking notes of likes, dislikes, and ideas for change. Some good & unique ideas came out of the process but the dominant consensus on the biggest issues seems to be: get rid of that damn racetrack, and run off at least some of the seemingly hundreds of Buy Here Pay Here car lots on Nolensville Pk. Sadly I think between contractual issues and NIMBY-ism we’re going to be stuck with both. Unless we resort to more, ummm, street-level tactics.
  • I’ve never listened to this Imus guy, in fact I’d never even heard of him before this controversy. I had some vague rambling thoughts about the situation, but basically they would fall somewhere into a triangulation between the excellent pieces by Lesley, Dork Nation, and Aunt B.
  • Soup continues to involve and improve though changes the last few weeks have been minor. Added a 1/2 teaspoon of oregano. Added carrots — last week used two carrots & no potato, this week one carrot & one potato. Started waiting to put the peppers, squash, and zucchini in during the last two minutes so they retain more crunch.
  • JL Kirk & Associates = Asshats. Since it’s also true that King & Ballow = Cosmic Douchebags, let the record reflect I’m merely expressing an opinion.
  • Sad news — RIP Kurt Vonnegut. Never my favorite author among his peers, but still quite a good one.

Oh, and a poll —
DJ Shadow at The Fillmore, or
The Decemberists at The Warfield Theater?

For both artists, I know little of their work but enjoy what I’ve heard. I’m leaning towards Shadow if only for the chance to visit The Fillmore. And I may not have to choose: it seems The Decemberists are doing two shows. But it’s questionable whether I can make the other one.

I made it to the meeting as well. I don’t see a contact on here for you, but send me an email. I think the racetrack and Nolensville are just the most obvious things that everyone seemed to have concerns about. I was a little concerned that it was such a relatively small, and, um, less than diverse crowd.

We live about a two hour drive from Nashville and are there several times a month for business or family. We lived there while in school (Vandy, and Peabody). I hate all the road construction everywhere, but I guess that’s to be expected in any large city these days.

    Nice site.

p.s. Went on to UT in Memphis. Much prefer Nashville over Memphis.
